The ferris wheel. The operator gave me a free ride once in a while - best view in the city! |
Michi went to Ukraine the first time for private tutoring at the folklore department of Lysenko Conservatory; up the worn stone stairs that Hapsburgs trod; down the hall, past the accordions and banduras. She admits to some preparation through a summer of Wednesdays with Oksana Moshinsky and a friend in the Peace Corps.
Oksana's CD is online! "A modern field recording - Ukrainian tunes and stories recorded in Denver on a reel-to-reel." Did you know someone who walked across Poland barefoot 60 years ago could also record and publish her own CD? Oksana is amazing. You should hear the stories (last three tracks of this recording).

The art is here for "Tales from the Fiddle Tree" thanks to Richard Franklin and Rachel Castro. It's not exactly a money-maker, I just thought it would be fun....you know, fiddle tree stamps on a fiddle tree postcard....wowee, Batman, this customization is out of control! This is to promote my Book/CD project to be released in November.
