As a fan at Fiddlers' Dream once said, Michi is never satisfied until she is at the edge of her seat. Michi had to get out and explore. At first, she planned to visit one new country every year to collect show material - but she fell in love with the first country she visited, Ukraine.
Now, she maintains contact with the Lysenko Conservatory folklorists, visits Ukrainian-American churches and musicians, and she pokes at old Slavic books and recordings. "Tales from the Fiddle Tree" is just the first creative result of her love affair with the Slavic soul. Mexico happened because of a letter published by Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association. Jennifer Sordyl had just begun teaching Suzuki to orphans across the border, needed more violin teachers, and Michi was already planning to spend the summer in Mexico somewhere. She couldn't afford Ukraine that year, and she'll tell you Mexico has certain similarities...... Michi was hooked even before she met the kids of Casa Elizabeth, but once she learned their stories, she couldn't stay away.
For all this traveling, Michi highly values her American passport and heritage. These days you can find her at Civil War reenactments, preparing to publish a book of letters her family has inherited.
Michi is an experienced world traveler, but she always finds time for the local crowds. You'll find her at bistros, coffee shop courtyards, senior centers, and wherever else a little violin is needed. Just remember, house concerts are her favorite -- anywhere, anytime.
