Project: Mexico
Great news for the violin project! Michi's interests in the Mexican Violin Project will continue with funding due to success in the previous year; with a few additions to the program. From a memo:
"MUSIC ACROSS BORDERS, Mexico : Thanks to the hard work and deep dedication of Jennifer Sordyl, Michi Regier, and Sujoy Spencer, this program at the Casa Elisabet orphanage in Imuris has expanded to include lessons on recorder and viola as well as the violins, and these teachers have made great strides in securing the necessary funding for the project by appealing to friends, family, employers and their friends at summer fiddle camp."
Casa de Elizabeth is an orphanage in Imuris, Mexico founded in 1985 to provide a safe haven for orphan, abused and abandoned children.
Currently, around one hundred of them from all across the country conform this great family.
The Violinistas of Casa de Elizabeth were born in May of 2004. Board member Ana Maria Vasquez started the project. Of the young people who live at the orphanage in Imuris, Mexico these children are the lucky few who study violin in their spare time.
The organization, Bridges Across Borders, brings teachers who visit the children once a month, or more if they can. The current teachers include Jennifer Sordyl, Maya Abela, and Michi Regier.
